Janet McGregor, president of the 1997-98 Fayette County Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, has received the 1998 Volunteer of the Year Award from the AHA. Area director Doug Halleen and field director Mary O'Conner presented the award to McGregor. McGregor is spearheading a "Benefit for the Heart" for the Fayette County American Heart Association with staff members of GymXpress in Peachtree City. The gym will host a number of events for the American Heart Association on Thursday, Oct. 29. As part of the day's fund-raising efforts, GymXpress will donate $50 to the AHA for each new membership and all proceeds from the use of the tanning beds. An AHA representative will be on hand from 5:30-8:30 p.m. to answer questions and check blood pressures. There will also be a "Jump for the Heart" beginning at 6:15 p.m. McGregor is coordinating a Heart Walk team from the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and GymXpress will also enter a team in the Nov. 8 event. The Volunteer of the Year award is given to volunteers who serve the American Heart Association and who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. "Janet is being recognized for her outstanding dedication to the American Heart Association, for her hard work as the president of the board of directors, and as the chair of the Celebrity Celebration event for the past three years," said O'Conner.
