County is taking Hopeful land as spite

Letters from Our Readers

I'm sending this letter to county commissioners and all local papers even though some may not print it due to loyalty to friends in high places.

I enjoy reading the dictionary as a pastime. It is a little like reading the Bible. One day a word or phrase doesn't seem to stick in my mind. Another time the same words make a lot of sense that did not before. It has a lot to do with what is going on at the time which I can relate to.

For instance, the word precedent, if looked at carefully, would solve a major conflict of a dispute over county-abandoned land of over a hundred years. Abandoned land is the same even if it is an old voting place with never a building, or a road right of way. A precedent has been set that abandoned county road rights of way of over a hundred years is owned by the latest taxpaying deed holder.

Abandoned land bought for different reasons owned by the same party does not change the fact that it is abandoned. The word abandoned is a fixed word in the dictionary and can not be changed by lawyers and judges looking the other way. In my dictionary the word abandoned means deserted. A deserted soldier doesn't retake his position with government as Fayette County is reclaiming position of this deserted land.

In the opinion of many, this land was taken for spite for losing the condemnation battle. In the buggy days, deeds were drawn by hearsay due to transportation. This deed was drawn on the wrong side of the road. The voting place was built on the opposite side on land the county did not own. This land has never belonged to Fayette County except by fraud created by a mistake in 1894, not in the 1930s.

This is what 20 affidavits of old people suggest who say they were not allowed to play on this property joining their school. These affidavits were not allowed into evidence by [Fayette Superior Court] Judge [Johnnie] Caldwell. Many of these older citizens feel as if it was an age discrimination insult and have voiced outrage. Thank God, they and their children with friends are voters. They are vowing to call 10 and ask each to call 10 at election times daily. They will sure have my help and the majority of the historical Hopeful Community which commissioners have declared war upon due to spite other projects with only a tenth of the opposition are voted out.

We Fayette citizens are a large family of taxpayers. This is as child abuse and using our needed money for court gambling.

Edgar Williams
Hopeful Community
