Poll workers expecting 50-60% turnout Tuesday

Fayette election officials are predicting that 50 to 60 percent of the county's 49,209 registered voters will turn out for the Nov. 3 General Election.

That's twice the number that voted in the General Primary in July, but with all the state offices on the line, plus two County Commission and two Board of Education posts locally, a healthy turnout is expected, said Cathy Stitchway of the county elections office.

There has been no change in precinct polling places since the General Primary, Stitchway said. Go to the same place to vote Tuesday that you voted in July.

And for those who are voting in Georgia for the first time, there is no straight party voting in Georgia. You must go down the entire list of candidates and choose the ones you want.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., and Stitchway reminds voters that new state law requires they bring identification to the polling place. A driver's license is sufficient, and there is a lengthy list of alternatives, but Stitchway pointed out that your precinct card is not acceptable.

If you're unsure, or for any information on this year's election, phone 770-460-5730, ext. 408.
