Business leaders have always touted Fayette County as a great place to live and do business.

Apparently, enough people are listening to the plaudits of the county as land speculation in the county reached a new high last month when a 141-acre tract sold for more than $14,000 an acre.

According to Sandra Harp of ReMax Around Atlanta All Stars, the tract is located at the intersection of Ga. Highway 314 and New Hope Road, across from the massive Fayette Pavilion shopping center.

The purchase price for the property was "well in excess of $1.8 million" and Harp believes this is the most expensive property ever sold in the unincorporated county.

But the land speculation may have only started.

Harp said the land's buyer, Don Stinchcomb, has put the property for sale again and is asking more than $2.8 million for the land.

"It's just really amazing," Harp said.

The proceeds from the original sale went to the Jackson estate, who then distributed the money to several charitable organizations. The property is currently zoned residential, but Harp is not sure if that's the best and highest use for the property.

"I think you'd have a difficult time developing it residential with the Fayette Pavilion just across the street," she said.
