Teams go head to head for playoff
positions, a look ahead for Friday

For the first time this season teams that are in our area began to face each other. The results were not exactly pretty.

East Coweta had their homecoming on Friday night and faced McIntosh. It was the perfect game to showcase the talents of the Indians to the alumni who came home. Dantra Clements scored three touchdowns in the first half with five minutes to spare. McIntosh continued to make mistakes on both sides of the ball and the 8th ranked Indians made them pay. East Coweta ups the stakes this Friday as they travel to Fayette County and face the Tigers. McIntosh gets to go home and face Upson-Lee.

Landmark Christian hosted the Northgate Vikings on Friday after a much needed week off. Coach Thorn felt the bye week gave the team a chance to heal but also caused the team to lose a step with their timing. Landmark's defense kept the team in the game after several fumbles deep in their own zone. Durand Rice was on fire for the offense, rushing for four touchdowns in the win.

The Fayette County Tigers are facing some dire straits. They lost to Lovejoy on Friday night and face an explosive East Coweta team at home on Friday. The Tigers played well in the first half with QB Gerald Johnson struggling to keep his team alive. He had a 25 yard run that set up a field goal and completed a 15 yard touchdown pass right before the half. The Tigers only manufactured 26 total yards in the second half though and a team lacking in offense does not bode well against East Coweta.

If you are to succeed at keeping the game close it is key to win time of posession against the Indians . Your defense also must be able to shut down all aspects of their offense as well. Fayette County gave up 262 yards in the air to Lovejoy, including five touchdown passes.

Sandy Creek dropped their game to Mt Zion of Jonesboro 7-0. The defense played spectacularly as the Patriots lost their second consecutive heartbreaker of the season. The game was not without controversy though. Sandy Creek had caught a touchdown pass that was called back when the official ruled the receiver out of bounds.

Coach Tyre proclaims "There was no way that the receiver was out of bounds and that the official made a mistake." The road does not get easier for the Patriots but they do play at home three more times this year.

Landmark, Fayette County and East Coweta are all still in their playoff pictures. Landmark has to make sure they do not overlook anybody and pull out a win over a talented Bowdon squad at the end of the season. Fayette County will have to push past East Coweta on Friday to have a good shot at the postseason. East Coweta should make the playoffs without a problem and a win against LaGrange would guarantee a top seeding. Grab your family this Friday and trot out to catch one of these exciting games.
