Noel November festivities ready to go
Area residents are encouraged to mark Nov. 14 on their
calendars as the Fayette County Board of Realtors will host the
1998 "Noel November A Celebration of Trees and Wreathes."
Martha Hayhurst, who co-chairs the association's "Noel
November" committee , said that with a few weeks remaining before
the date of the festive event, the target figure of Christmas trees has
already been reached and only a few more wreaths are
needed. Donations of the remaining wreaths will be taken from
the community at large on a first come, first served basis;
sponsorships for this year's event are also available.
"We're also hoping for a record turnout of people at this
year's event," said co-chair Michaele Gatheridge.
The fourth "Noel November," one of the highlights of the
Christmas season for the community and one of the association's
major community service projects each year, is scheduled for Nov. 14,
at the Kiwanis Field Fairgrounds, located on Redwine Road in
Fayetteville.
The event features a public showing of the trees and
wreaths from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., followed by an auction that night. In
addition, the day's program includes special Christmas music,
holiday children's activities, and photos with Santa. The schedule of
activities will be announced between now and the event.
The trees and wreaths featured in "Noel November" are
contributed by local businesses, organizations, and individuals. The
festival has always attracted a large group of sponsors who help
with the cost of putting it together.
Each year, all proceeds are donated to a worthwhile local
non-profit organization, and last year, the Fayette County Board of
Realtors was able to contribute $10,000 to furnish the
Asden Johnson Youth Protection Home in Brooks.
The goal for this years celebration is to raise a minimum
of $10,000 to provide play equipment at the Asden Johnson Home.
Those interested in more information about how they can
contribute toward this year's "Noel November" are asked to
call Hayhurst at 770-487-8800, Gatheridge at 770-631-3300,
or the association office at 770-461-2401.
