Fayette County is spending $9,885.77 to cool off the sheriff's office.

The County Commission recently approved a bid from Blue Chip Air to replace one of the department's air conditioning units. "At this time, rather than spend any more time repairing this unit, replacement would be more advisable and cost effective," said Jim George of the county's maintenance department in a letter to the commission.

The governing body also approved spending $38,951 to replace a worn-out backup generator for the 911 transmission tower, to keep emergency communications going in a power outage.

Also approved was the low bid of $84,400 from Robinson and Sons to paint the interior of two water tanks in Peachtree City.
