PTC First Presbyterian's homecoming is Oct. 11

First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City plans its first Homecoming Service Sunday, Oct. 11, with a special joint worship service at 10:10 a.m.

"Old friends and new friends" are expected for the worship, to be followed by a picnic, says Anne Jaeckel, a coordinator for the event.

Also, Sunday School will be held at 9 a.m. at the church, located at 206 Willowbend Road.

Fayette Presbyterian's outreach in Peachtree City resulted in the establishment of First Presbyterian in 1966. Its first elders were Chip Conner, Joel Cowan, Luther Glass, Ralph Jones and Bill Poe. In 1969 the present pastor, the Rev. Don Smith, was installed as the first pastor of the new church.

Now the church has an associate pastor, the Rev. Matt Hilgaertner, and a new sanctuary with room for growth beyond its 700 members, Jaeckel says. On most Sundays the congregation has two services, a contemporary service at 8:45 a.m. with a praise band led by Joel Bridges, and a traditional service at 11 a.m., with Sunday School in between.

Programs at the church include Christian education for all ages, active youth group, senior citizen activities, a small-group Bible study called "Christ Care," and Steven Ministry for one-on-one help to members in grief or crisis.

The Homecoming Service will include special music and memories, testimony and a video about the church's first 30 years, Jaeckel added. The community is invited, she says, to share the celebration, and if more information is needed, call her at 770-486-1200.
