Unless an extension is granted, the city's nine-month-old moratorium on rezoning applications will expire Oct. 12, just in time for the deadline for developers to submit rezoning proposals for the city Planning Commission's November meeting. The City Council put zoning activity on hold early this year to give the Planning Commission and staff breathing room to revise the city's comprehensive plan for future development. That process, including a new color-coded land use map that will be used as a guide for future zoning decisions, has been concluded by the Planning Commission, and City Council will discuss the new plan during its regular business meeting Monday at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. * The city of Fayetteville will replace two underground fuel storage tanks to meet new federal regulations. All underground tanks must be upgraded by Dec. 22, a mandate from the Environmental Protection Agency. City Council recently accepted the bid of Terminal Maintenance and Construction to replace a 250-gallon tank that serves the Fire Department and a 1,000-gallon tank to fuel a backup generator at the water treatment plant for a combined $24,950.
