planting Ribbon Rose Garden The South Metro Rose Society will establish an informal rose garden during the Kiwanis Fayette County Fair. The garden will be located in front of the recreation center at Kiwanis Fields. An "education table," plus 20 tons of topsoil, river sand and composted grass clippings are at the site, and fairgoers and any garden enthusiast will be able to participate in the creation of this public garden. The Society will have about 50 Old Garden/Antique Roses to dedicate and to plant. A rose can be dedicated to a person or event, tagged with a short message, tied with a harvest bow and ribbon, and then planted in the new garden. Close to the Thanksgiving holidays, the group will publish the collection of messages and send the message to the designated recipient. The South Metro Rose Society will accept a $15 reimbursement to cover some of the garden's costs. The Fair opens at 6 p.m. evenings through Friday, and at noon Saturday. It is located on the grounds of Kiwanis Fields, Redwine Road, Fayetteville. For more, phone Mary Alice Lawrence, 770-461-9714. |
