Chancellor Robert C. Khayat recently welcomed Tiffany Turner of Sharpsburg to the McDonnell-Barksdale Honors College at the University of Mississippi. Students in the Honors College study interdisciplinary courses not offered elsewhere in the university classes that expose them to the highest form of critical thinking in the sciences, humanities, arts, mathematics and social sciences. Netscape Communications president and CEO James L. Barksdale and his wife, Sally McDonnell Barksdale, provided $5.4 million to the university in 1996 to fund the Honors College.

Monica Nicole Hester of Fayetteville was named to the summer quarter Dean's List at LaGrange College for summer quarter. She is the daughter of William and Faye Hester.

Students who receive a grade point average of 3.6 or better are eligible for this honor.

A four-year liberal arts college affiliated with The United Methodist Church, LaGrange College offers 25 baccalaureate degrees and master's programs in business administration and education. It is the oldest independent institution of higher learning in the state and has an enrollment of about 1,000 students.

The Chick-fil-A chain announced that Fayetteville resident Staci Taylor has been selected to receive one of its $1,000 Leadership Scholarships. She was nominated by her employer, Doug Mickey, operator of the Chick-fil-A Dwarf House Restaurant in Fayetteville, where more than $86,000 in scholarship money has been awarded to employees.

A Pace Christian High School graduate, Taylor is pursuing a music/business degree at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn.
