Here's a sample tax bill

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

Fayette County Tax Commissioner George Wingo has released the following sample property tax information using new tax rates approved by local cities, the county and school board last week.

The bills are based on a $150,000 home using a $5,000 homestead exemption for county taxes and a $2,000 exemption for school maintenance and operation and state taxes. There is no exemption for school bonded indebtedness. These figures will not apply to those who are eligible for special exemptions.

For tax purposes, the home's value is assessed at 40 percent of value, or $60,000. Subtract the homestead exemption, and use a final figure of $58,000 for state and school taxes and $55,000 for county taxes. Fayette's cities offer no homestead exemption, so use $60,000 for figuring those.

State tax .25 mills $14.50

County tax 5.21 mills $349.25

School M&O tax 19.84 mills $1,150.72

School bond tax 4.15 mills $249.00

Fire tax 4 mills $220

Total 33.45 mills $1,983.47

For cities, add:

Brooks 1 mill $60.00

Tyrone 2.5 mills $150.00

Peachtree City 4.06 mills $243.60

Fayetteville 3.52 mills $211.20
