Club Peachtree and the Peachtree City Running Club decided to hold a different kind of event, a "Pump and Run". Runners do not generally bench press and those who bench press generally are not runners.

Rules were drawn up: there were two classes, Open Division and Novice Division, with trophies for both men and women for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each; in the Open Division, men must lift their own body weight, and women must lift 60 percent of their body weight; in the Novice Division, men must lift 115 lbs. and women had to lift 45 lbs., these events were held on a Friday evening. On Saturday morning, a 5K run was held, with each successful bench press repetition counting as 30 seconds deducted from the final run time. Only members of Club Peachtree and the Peachtree City Running Club could enter the competition.

A total of 41 competitors entered, 29 men and 12 women.

The top three men with the fastest time were Ronald Werling, Riley Jensen and Bob Dalton, with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fastest times respectively.

The top three women were Valerie Reed, Kim Evans and Vicki Hardy coming in with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd fastest times respectively.

Due to the enthusiasm of everyone who participated, another event will be announced in a few months.
