President Clinton and the 'Slippery Slope'

I unfortunately had the opportunity to watch the Grand Jury Investigation last Monday where our President was being questioned for four hours about the special "presidential time" he spent with Monica Lewinski. He then went on national television and denied having had "sex" with her.

America has never been more off track morally than now. I can remember in the military, when the commander chewed tobacco, then everyone on the staff started chewing tobacco. If the commander was a heavy drinker, then the glasses started clinking at the parties. If the commander liked off-color jokes, then the lewd jokes flowed. If the commander hunted and fished, then the old hunting and fishing tackle started showing up around the headquarters. Or if the commander was a Godly man or woman, then the junior officers and enlisted men and women started coming to Chapel services on a regular basis.

In other words, people emulated the commander. What he or she did, they did! It's called leadership.

America, you have been betrayed! All the training you have tried to give your sons and daughters is now sliding down the slippery slope of "moral relativism." Do you remember the early 70s when the philosophy called "situation ethics" emerged? In other words President Clinton said, in essence, that if a person believes himself to be right, it's okay to do or say anything. "It depends on the situation." This, my friends, is the formula for anarchy. I guess now we need to redefine the words "oral sex" to "oral play."

Wait till our sons and daughters tell us that "we didn't have intercourse therefore we were not having sex!" so says the president of the United States.

I often have wondered if President Clinton's daughter were involved in these activities, would he have called it sex? What if it got popular to run red lights? Or what if the Unibomber felt he was "cleansing" society of a certain "type" of person? Anarchy would follow!

One of the many things that is beautiful about America is that we are a country that has laws and we as Americans continually return to those laws and our Constitution to govern and direct our society. The very definition of a society, a family, of a group of any kind, includes "parameters of behavior." These are there for a very important reason.

What I sadly witnessed on Monday during the investigation was our leader and highest elected official sitting for four solid hours, lying about his memory of his latest affair, and redefining "truth." At one point he stated "now sir if I answered that question it would be a pretty slippery slope." In other words "if I answered that question, I would have to tell the truth."

In the Bible, in the book of Judges the very last chapter and the very last verse, it reads "In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes".

I personally believe God is judging America in the leadership of Bill Clinton. The American people said in essence, just give us someone who will tell us what we want to hear, fill our coffers with money even if the cheap items we all buy come from Communist slave labor camps in China, and we want someone with the morals of a snake so we can feel good about our own lives.

II Timothy 4 it reads "for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths." Sound familiar?

President Clinton has now, more than any other time in his presidency, the golden opportunity to own up to his past and strike a blow for all that is right about America. This would set the example for all Americans to follow. Instead he has taught us to shift the blame, develop amnesia about all key points, lie, deny, and redefine the rules to be sure they are always in your favor. Mr. President, you have taught us well, but you lost your opportunity to be free from all the guilt and sadness it brings. Sin has its consequences, but " you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free!"

To any Americans who might have been "sucked in" by our President, spend some time thinking and praying about what you are going to tell your children.

They are waiting, wanting an answer and watching for your responses. It is a "teachable moment."
