In a special meeting Sept. 23, the city kept its tax rate at 4.06 mills for
another year. Information from City Manager Jim Basinger shows that the tax
digest, from which millage is figured, has grown by 16.83 percent from last year
nearly 74 percent from property reassessment and 26 percent from new
construction.
Based on the same millage rate, Basinger said, the digest will
generate $229,559 more than the proposed budget of $3,782,293. For the last few
years, he added, council has placed excess funds in its contingency account to pay
for such things as storm damage to infrastructure, traffic signals, bridge repairs
and other unexpected expenses.
