Baseball

Sandy Creek High School Booster Club is looking for softball players from the Fayette or Peachtree City Church Leagues to join in the Patriot Classic Softball Tournament. Entry fee $100/team. Teams provide their own balls. Gary Teal, 770-631-8795 or 404-778-5858.

Peachtree City Little League will host a Doyle Baseball School for the fall program. The school will be a four day session at $50.00 per player for the entire program. 8 and a half hours of total training will be held in Peachtree City at the South 74 Baseball complex Sept.16 6-8:30 p.m., Sept.19 2-5:30 p.m., Sept. 23 6-8:30 p.m. and Sept.26 2-6 p.m. Sign up by Sept. 9. Running

The 1998 Peachtree City Classic 15K Open, 5K mens and 5K womens races will be held Saturday Oct. 17. Hosted by the Peachtree City Running Club and Peachtree City, the course through Peachtree City's cart paths was voted the Best Course in Georgia Athlete Magazine, and is always a sellout. The grand prize drawing is two $500 cash vouchers on KLM/Northwest for any domestic destination. There are awards for top three male and female in several races that admit all ages. Rat Race '98, a 5K/10K run will be held at Landmark Christian

School on Oct. 3 at 8 a.m. The fee for the race is $15 if you register before Oct 1 and $20 if you register after Oct. 1

The 48th annual Metro Fayette Kiwanis Fair 5K and 1 mile run will be held on Sept. 26. Registration on race day begins at 5:30 p.m and will cost $15. If you register before the day of the race the cost is only $12. The race will begin at the First Baptist Church. The Fun Run starts at 6:30 p.m., while the 5K begins at 7 p.m. Contact Stacy Smith at 770-460-6060 for more information.

Cycling

The Fayette County Bicycle Club is being formed by the Fayette County Recreation Department. Club meets Saturdays at 9 a.m. at the Kiwanis Recreation Center. 770-461-9714. The first organizational meeting will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m at the Kiwanis Recreation Center.

Football

Peachtree City is set to start registering players for the annual flag football league. The organization meeting is set for Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kedron Fieldhouse. Registration starts directly after the meeting. For more information, call Grady Sikes at 770-631-2542.

Golf

1998 Summer Break Junior Golf Clinics will take place at Wendell Coffee Golf Center in Tyrone throughout the summer. Designed to teach the basics of golf, each junior receives instruction according to his/her level of play. Fee includes unlimited range balls and use of the 18 hole Rocky Creek Putting Course, snacks and drinks and competition for prizes. Age groups are 6-10 years, 10-14 years and 14-17 years. Cost is $50/child ages 6-10 ($275 for seven clinics), $60/child ages 10-14 ($395 for eight clinics) and $60/child ages 14-17 ($150 for three clinics).

The American Cancer Society is having an end of the year price reduction on their golf pass. The pass entitles you to play on over 135 courses. Each pass is $15 or you can get 4 for $50. This will be offered until December of 1998

The second annual Invitational Golf Tournament and Musical celebration will be held Sept.28 and 29 at The Golf Club of Georgia. Some of this year's invited guests for the Celebrity-Am tournament are Jeff Foxworthy, Garth Brooks, Greg Maddux and Nolan Ryan. Proceeds from the tournament will go to build the Baptist Medical Center in Cumming, Ga.

Tennis

The Fayette County Recreation Department wil offer Tennis lessonsthis fall to anyone over the age of 15. The class dates are Sept. 14, 15, 21 and 22 from 7-8 p,m and Oct. 5,12,19, and 26 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. for beginners and Oct. 5, 12, 19, and 26 from10:30-11:30 a.m. and Oct. 12, 13, 19, and 20 from 7-8 p.m. for intermediate players. The cost of the classes is $25 and a new can of balls. To participate, you must register at least two days prior to the lessons. For more information, contact the recreation department at 461-9714.

Swimming

Southside Seals Masters swim team meets Monday through Friday, 7-8:30 p.m. at Kedron Aquatic Center in Peachtree City. Dues are $90 per year and include USMS registration and pool time. Ken Sharpe (770-631-3543) or Steve Justice (770-964-5323).

Basketball

The Peachtree City Youth Basketball Association will hold registration for the winter season at the Kedron Field House Oct. 10 and 11 from 1-4p.m. It is open for both boys and girls in grades 1-12. The cost for children in Grades 1-2 is $80 and for children in Grades 3-12, the cost is $90.

Miscellaneous

Health and exercise guru Richard Simmons will be speaking at Shannon Southpark Mall, Friday Sept. 25 from 6-8p.m.In addition to Simmon's appearance, there will be many exhibits at the Healthy Living Expo. Go out and feel the burn.

Soccer

Registration for the winter indoor youth soccer season will be held Saturdays Oct.10 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Soccer Centre in Fayetteville. The registration deadline is Oct. 31 and the season begins Nov. 9. For more information call The Soccer Centre at (770)-460-8785.
