Weekend brings Fayette's turn as 'festival county'
By PAT NEWMANStaff Writer
Craft lovers and carnival junkies, take heart: You can do it all. Start out
Saturday morning with a brisk 5K jog in Tyrone's Chip Chase or circle Shamrock Lake at
a leisurely pace before heading to Shamrock Park at 9 a.m. for more
Founder's Day activities. Browse the craft booths and take in the car show, duck race,
parade and midway before boarding the bus for Peachtree City's Shakerag arts
and crafts festival.
School buses will leave Peachtree City and Tyrone on the hour and
half-hour, allowing festival-goers to take in both events.
Spread under the pines on Shakerag Knoll off McIntosh Trail, crafters
and artists, both newcomers and old favorites, will showcase their wares starting at
10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to the anticipated attractions like the moon walk and pony
rides, Shakerag coordinator Susan Taylor said the Starr's Mill High School Chorus
will sponsor a special children's section with games specifically designed for
the younger set. "This is a great attraction
for parents with small children," Taylor said.
In conjunction with the weekend festivities, the Frederick Brown
Amphitheater will set the stage for "Get Back!
The Cast from Beatlemania." Tyrone will light up the skies Saturday night with a
fireworks display over the lake.
