Military Briefs
Matthew J. Thomas has graduated from the Army
Reserve Officer Training Corps Advanced Camp at Fort Lewis,
Tacoma, Wash. At camp, the cadet completed a five-week course
which contains intensive military leadership training and
evaluation exercises in communications, management and survival
training.
After successfully completing advanced camp and
graduating from college, Thomas will be commissioned as a
second lieutenant to serve in the U.S. Army, National Guard or
Reserve.
Thomas is the son of Lloyd D. Thomas of Copperas
Cove, Texas, and Joyce Niggley of Tyrone.
Brian P. Lino has graduated from the Army Reserve
Officer Training Corps Camp Challenge at Fort Knox, Ky. Camp
Challenge is designed to give college juniors and sophomores who
have not taken ROTC courses the chance to enter the
program. Cadets receive training in fundamental military skills, basic
rifle marksmanship, drill and ceremonies, small arms tactics,
and communications.
Lino, a student at Georgia State University, is the son of
Joseph and Linda Lino of Fayetteville. He is a 1995 graduate of
Sandy Creek High School.
Army Pvt. Shay L. Downey has entered basic military
training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. During the training, the
soldier will receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, map
reading, tactics, military customs and courtesies, physical fitness
and first aid.
Downey, a 1998 graduate of McIntosh High School, is the
son is Cathy Downey of Peachtree City and Tim Downey
of Jonesboro.

Reserve. The cadets are normally between their third and
fourth year of college when attending camp. Nelson is currently
a student at Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Wash. He
is the son of Ronald A. Nelson of Fayetteville.
Patrick J. Baker has graduated from the Army

Fayetteville, is a 1995 graduate of Fayette County High School.
