Hollingsworth House
campaign is under way By CAROLYN CARY Contributing Writer
The steering committee for the restoration of The
Hollingsworth House recently sponsored a reception at the home of Dan
and Sylvia Davis to outline its plans for a capital campaign. A goal
of $250,000 has been designated for the interior renovation and furnishing costs, turning the
house into a center of community activity.
This figure is a combined goal of monetary contributions
and in-kind donations necessary to restore the Hollingsworth
House and transition it into a unique and functional facility for
community use.
In conjunction with the home's use by the public for
special events, the house may also serve as a "home-base" for the
visual/cultural arts. Professional artists on the Southside currently lack
a facility to regularly exhibit their work.
Serving as co-chairmen are Lisa Hovey-King and J. Sam Burch who said, "The future of our
past in your hands." Burch added, "There's no better way to
welcome the new millennium than by ensuring that future generations
can enjoy and appreciate our historic resources than through
the restoration of the Hollingsworth House."
Also serving on the committee are Sherri Anderson,
Gary McGaha, Al Hovey-King and Michael Faulkner.
