The Landmark Lady War Eagles lost to Pace Academy in softball last Thursday, 12-0. Landmark has six returning seniors and two sophomores, the rest of the team is freshmen. Though the maturity level is spread out, the team is building experience by playing against tough competition. The competition continued into the weekend as Landmark took part in the Shaw tournament. The Lady War Eagles played five games in two days, only winning one game. They defeated Brookstone by a score of 9-4. Their losses came against Harris County, Pacelli Catholic, Westside and Columbus. Most of the losses were only by a run or two and Coach Bozeman said that the quality of their opponents is important to the development of his team.

Senior catcher Tarah Blondeau was scorching the ball over the weekend, going 10 for 15 at the tournament. Heather McCord did a majority of the pitching, while Andi Stipe and first baseman Kristen May played well throughout the tournament. Landmark plays at Lovett High School on Thursday.

The Lady Chiefs played in the Rockdale Tournament over the weekend, placing third out of a 12 team field. The Lady Chiefs started off by shutting out the Cedar Shoals Lady Jaguars, 15-0 on Friday night. They put on a clinic, nailing 13 hits overall and scoring 12 in the fourth inning. The Chief rallied at the top of the fifth, when Brooke and Abby King both singled, advancing on a Megan Mulcahey single and scoring on singles from Candace Moore and Britte Hardy. The game was tied 2-2 in the top of the seventh, when the Lady Chiefs bats came alive. They recorded five hits, including a triple by Hardy and a double by Ward. The Lady Chiefs scored four runs in the wild seventh and cruised to a 6-2 victory.

The Lady Chiefs luck ran out though, in their fourth contest of the day, against Rockdale County. There was a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation and international tie- breaker rules were put into play. The tie-breaker rules place a runner on second base for each team. Both teams scored one run in the inning and Rockdale scored agin in the eighth. A contoversial call at third base ended the Lady Chiefs hopes and they lost 2-1. The Lady Chiefs will play Fayette County at 6 p.m.on Tuesday at McCurry Park as well as Starr's Mill at 5 p.m.on Wednesday and Newnan at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Both games will be played at Meade Field.
