Outback Steakhouse offers superiority in quality and taste

As an area's dining options increase, the first thing that usually follows is the invasion of chain restaurants. Many links in some of the chains offer bland and tasteless food, but every now and then, a chain gets it right.

With this in mind, Outback Steakhouse in the Kedron shopping center in Peachtree City is chosen as this month's Citizens' Choice restaurant.

Years ago, when the Florida-based chain moved into the Atlanta region, I was underwhelmed by the restaurant. The food seemed manufactured, rather than cooked, and it was just not a pleasant experience.

But being the ever-adventurous gourmand, I decided to give the Peachtree City branch a chance. After sampling the restaurant several times, I have to rescind my earlier opinion and give it a "thumbs up."

The restaurant has a decidedly-Australian theme and the menu features cute terms for several of the menu items. While you'll never really think you've travelled down under, the gimmick works and adds to the dining experience.

The steaks at the restaurant are some of the best in this area. Perfectly flavorful and juicy, the steaks will please any of the carnivores in your party. In addition to steaks, the restaurant also serves ribs, lamb and chicken.

Each entree comes with a choice of Caesar salad or house salad and all-you-can-eat warm, brown bread. If you choose to go the appetizer route, the house specialty is the blooming onion. An onion is butterflied and then deep-fried. The onion comes with a delightful dipping sauce and is as addictive as potato chips.

A word of warning: If you order the onion, eat your salad and the bread, there is scarce room for the entree. Remember, pace yourself.

While I enjoy steak as much as anybody, one of my favorite dishes is the Holly Springs Chicken. The perfectly grilled chicken breast is complemented with a garnish of mushrooms, bacon and cheese.

For a little taste of the outback, head to Peachtree City and have a g'day.
