C.B.C. not only stands for Cornerstone Bible Church in Fayetteville, but also for the purpose set up by the congregation, "Communing with God, Building up Believers, Caring for the Lost."

The congregation first began in the home of Dr. T. O. Humber in 1981. After meeting there for a year, they next met in an old church building on Ga. Highway 85 South for four years, and met in the old Kenwood School for two years.

In 1988, its very own church was built on Rivers Road. The congregation now numbers 150 faithful Bible believers and is served by a pastor they have had since the beginning, Terre Haas.

He was born and reared in the Atlanta area, growing up mostly in south DeKalb County. In his senior year at Georgia Tech, where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Management, he began to feel the pull of entering church work. Two years after graduating, he entered the Columbia, S.C., University Seminary, graduating in 1981 with a master's degree in Divinity.

He and wife Susan Humber met when he served as a part time youth director in Fairburn and married in 1975. They are the parents of Jonathan, 20, who graduated from Sandy Creek High School, and David, 16, who is a junior at Sandy Creek.

"I think the church should reflect the diversity of the community it serves," he said, "and God would receive much glory if our congregation can do just that. Bringing diverse groups together is God's goal, as illustrated more than once in the Bible."

"Emphasis here is on exalting Jesus as the Son of God and I believe the Scriptures show us how to do that. This is a Bible church. Our name comes from Ephesians 2:21; 'And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone'."

"That's what this church is all about," he concluded.

The church is located at 426 Rivers Road and can be reached at 770-964-6789.

Sunday morning worship is at 10:50 a.m. and Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m. Sunday evening worship is at 6:30 p.m. on the first and last Sundays at the church and on the middle Sundays they meet in homes for small group ministries.
