The Peachtree City Library is counting its blessings with the approval of pay raises, two new positions at the facility, and a pending computer services upgrade. Leisure Services Director Randy Gaddo told the Library Commission Wednesday that because of a pay-scale study done by the Atlanta Regional Commission and adopted by both Fayette County and the city, library employees' raises will be around 15 to 26 percent overall. Plus, the city's newly-approved fiscal 1999 budget included funding to hire a library supervisor and a technical/training person with library education and background. The commission voted to suspend discussion on new security measures to stop book losses, and will concentrate on methods to prevent vandalism. Library director M.T. Allen said she believes that more books are ruined than stolen, primarily by having pages removed. Brad Williams outlined a computer services plan for the library, which will include additional computers, more Internet access and a wide variety of software options available to library patrons. The commission scheduled a special meeting on Tuesday Sept. 22 to vote on a final decision for the computer configurations, which will cost $30-35,000.
