Football Rollicking

One week down, nine more to go. High school football got off to a rollicking start last Friday and it only looks to get....rollickinger ? The Fayette County Tigers were winners over Paulding County and will square off against Newnan in Newnan this Friday. Newnan defeated the Campbell Spartans 51-0 last week and now begs the question, Are they that good or is Campbell that bad ?

East Coweta had their hands full against Parkview but came out on top with a 23-13 victory. Parkview was the preseason number one in the Atlanta Journal Constitution 4-AAAA rankings but has lost for the second consecutive week, to teams named the Indians no less. East Coweta will face off against Lovejoy Saturday afternoon at Twelve Oaks. Lovejoy defeated Central Macon last week by a score of

The McIntosh Chiefs did not start off as well as they would have liked. They lost to the Pebblebrook Falcons 37-13. Pebblebrook made the state playoffs last year and appeared to dominate the Chiefs from the kickoff. The Chiefs will travel to LaGrange this Friday to take on last years region winners, the Grangers. LaGrange beat Troup County last week 27-18.

Starr's Mill lost to the Riverdale Raiders in their season opener and first varsity game ever, 56-13. Riverdale was a playoff team last year and appears to be a contender again this year. The Panthers will be tested again this Friday as they challenge Morrow at home.

Sandy Creek was defeated at the hands of Morrow on Saturday, . They will face off against Henry County at home on Friday. Henry County lost to Jones County last week 14-6.

The Landmark War Eagles lost to the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans 41-15 last Friday. The Spartans are one of the top teams in the State and some tough competition for a team like the War Eagles who play an ironman style of football. Landmark will play Lovett this Friday at home. Lovett lost to Westminster last week 21-13, but is a formidable AA opponent.

As the region enters the second week of high school football, it is important to remember that the season is long and no team is a lock nor completely out of it either. A win last week may give a team false confidence while a loss may be the wake up call to a dormant competitive spirit. It is important to remember that the spontaneous nature of sports is what draws us to them.
