A 15-year-old from Fayetteville was killed Monday when the three-wheel vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a van on Omin Road.

Maj. Wayne Hannah, traffic enforcement division director for the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, said Joshua Frank Strickland and a passenger, 10-year-old Jeffrey Grizzard of Fayetteville, were traveling in the 1985 Honda three-wheeler on the wrong side of the narrow dirt road when they met the van in a curve. The driver of the 1994 Chevrolet van, Gerald David Force of Griffin, was not injured, but Grizzard was transported to Southern Regional Medical Center with leg injuries and head lacerations, according to the report.

Hannah's report said Strickland, who was not wearing a helmet, died instantly from severe head injuries. Grizzard was wearing a helmet but the strap was not secured, Hannah said.

The crash occurred about 12:10 p.m. on Omin Road between Ga. Highway 92 and New Hope Road in northern Fayette County, Hannah said. The investigation is still ongoing, he added.

While alcohol is not suspected in the accident, Hannah said it is standard procedure in fatal crashes to submit blood samples from both drivers to the Georgia State Crime Lab for analysis.
