The Edgefield Baptist Church recently refurbished its outdoor baptismal font and over 70 people were on hand for the special occasion.

It was originally built between 70 and 80 years ago, as attested by Mrs. Ellen Porter. "I don't mind telling you," she said, "that I am 87 years old and I was baptized in that pool when I was 12 years old."

Dinner on the grounds celebrated not only the refurbishing of the fount but also the first time they were able to make use of a fully paved parking lot. The church is in the process of $40,000 worth of improvements both to the grounds and its facilities.

A praise and worship service continued inside the church with many parishioners contributing their favorite Bible verses concerning baptism.

Pastor Eddie Thomas then led his congregation to the baptismal pool where seven candidates for baptism were dressed in white.

Mrs. Elizabeth Harris Stinchcomb, 67, who had been baptized in the pool at the age of 13, beamed with pride to see her granddaughter, Lacey Clark, also 13, receive the same honor.

When those around the pool were asked to raise their hands if they had been baptized in it in the past, 18 people raised their hands.
