With a new office park planned for the busy Ga. Highway 74 corridor and a focus on encouraging quality growth in the area, the Tyrone Planning Commission made their feelings clear last week on industrial development in the area. Bill Green appeared before the commission Aug. 27 to get a preliminary feeling on a new industrial park on Hwy. 74 near Abundant Life Church. Green was representing Danny Campbell, who owns approximately 50 acres and is considering selling the land to a developer who would create an industrial park. Green said the park would consist of mainly warehousing operations and said the development would add to the city's tax base without bringing in residential growth and the need for more schools. Commissioner Paul Letourneau said the town already had the Shamrock Industrial Park and felt that was enough industrial space for the town. He added the town was trying to ensure that quality growth occurred along the state highway corridor and asked if the land could possibly be developed as an office park. "You can only have so many office parks," said Green. While not taking a formal vote on the matter, the rest of the commission expressed Letourneau's sentiments. Green said he would relay the message back to Campbell and would possibly bring more facts and figures back to the planning commission.
