Notable
Kimberly Elaine Johnson, daughter of Mike and
Elaine Johnson of Peachtree City, has been awarded a Georgia Board
of Regents Scholarship at Valdosta State
University. The scholarship is based on
academic achievement. Johnson, majoring in elementary education, earned
a 4.0 spring quarter at VSU. She is a 1997 graduate of
McIntosh High School.
Fayette County resident Linda Ware, second
vice president of the Metropolitan Atlanta Corporate
Volunteerism Council, joins other board members as they prepare to
host the Points of Light Foundation's annual National Awards
for Excellence in Corporate Community Service and the first
IMPACT Awards luncheon set for Sept. 9 at the Omni Hotel
in Atlanta. Keynote speaker will be retired Army Gen. Colin
L. Powell.
Crestina Roth, a third grade teacher at
East Fayette Elementary School, has been selected
to receive the 1998 Presidential Award for Excellence in
Mathematics Teaching at the state level. As a state-level winner,
she will receive an education grant of $750, funded by the
National Sciences Foundations, and she will be a candidate for a
national-level Presidential Award. Roth has been a teacher at EFES for
12 years and now is the school's assistant principal.
North Georgia College and State
University has announced that Kathryn
Peters of Fayette County has been named to the President's List for earning a
4.0 during summer quarter. Named to the Dean's List, for earning a
3.5 grade point average or above, was Christopher
Nash from Fayetteville.
The State University of West Georgia recently
