Letter writer retracts, corrects erroneous information about BOE member, Dr. Bob Todd

Letters from Our Readers

To the voters of Fayette County who read my recent letter:

Today I received a letter from Philip S. Coe, trial lawyer, informing me that he has been retained by Dr. Bob Todd for a possible suit against me because I have been circulating false and libelous statements about Dr. Todd in my letter to the voters sent to all our local newspapers the week of the primary in July.

According to Mr. Coe, the information I received from workers in the Board of Education central office was incorrect, as he informed me that Dr. Todd has personal cancelled checks where he paid some of the clerical personnel who willingly worked at home on their own equipment and their own time to type his doctoral dissertation.

He also informed me that the copying of Dr. Todd's dissertation was done at a local commercial printing shop and there is documentation to prove this.

In light of this information, I am told I must retract the statements I made in reference to this and notify each and every newspaper that my statements were in error and the allegations are untrue, if I wish to avoid a possible defamation action.

This letter is being sent to each of the local papers as a retraction of the incorrect information.
