Fayetteville Police said Tuesday that Matthew Carter, 26, was found dead in a wooded area
near his home after having been reported missing
for two weeks.
Carter, of 240 Burch Road, Fayetteville, was reported missing Aug. 11 by his wife.
Unconfirmed reports say his wife located the body
in an ongoing search of wooded areas near where the couple lived with their two young daughters.
Identification of Carter was made by Fayetteville Police and the Georgia Bureau of
Investigation. Law enforcement agencies say the
cause of death is undetermined, but foul play is not
suspected.
Becky Davenport, a friend of the Carter family, says a fund has been set up at
Fayetteville First Union Bank in the names of Carter's
daughters, Brigitte,2, and Ceridwen, four months.
The girls' grandmother, Pat Perkins, was a
longtime teacher in Fayette County.
