Letters from Our Readers
I am 28 years old and engaged to be married. I have no children.
I am currently involved in a career that I love and it is hard for me
to imagine not working. However, I have nothing but respect for
stay-at-home moms.Several of my friends have made the choice to stay
at home with their children and they have one of the most challenging
yet rewarding jobs in the world.
I am appalled at people who think that stay-at-home moms
just watch soap operas all day while occasionally changing a diaper. It
is people like this who have tried to convince society that women
have to hold a successful career, be a mom, and take care of the
house chores. Society has tried to make us believe that it is impossible to
live off of one salary because you have to afford that bigger house and
a brand new sports utility vehicle.
The truth of the matter is that you can be just as happy and
maybe even happier without those material things.
To answer your question, of course you are doing the right
thing! Because of seeing my "stay-at-home mom" friends, I have
been encouraged to do the same when I have children. My fiance and
I will be living off of one salary when we are married so that
we will be prepared for me to stay at home when we decide to
have children.
I am glad to see people like yourself stay at home to raise
their children. I believe that it is the most important job in the world.
I hope more women will realize that they do have this choice.
