Live from day to day
The Rev. Chuck Griffith Religion Columnist Live from day to day Can you believe that summer is almost over? In a couple of weeks the 1998-99 school year will begin. It seems just yesterday most of us were planning for our summer vacations and activities. Now all those things are almost over. Time seems to fly. This is especially true when we live for events rather than enjoying each day of our journey. Too often an event comes and goes, then we realize that days, weeks, and years have passed while we looked toward the event. For instance, remember the announcement that Atlanta would host the 1996 Olympics? For years our whole region planned and prepared for those few weeks. The 1996 Olympics came and have now been over for almost two years. At this time there are more days separating us from the Olympics of 1996 than are between us and the dawning of a new millennium. Instead of going from event to event we should make the most of life from day to day. How can we make the most of each day? Realize that you have been given today as a gift to be opened, as a path to be explored. Treat each day as a fine piece of heirloom china rather than a disposable paper plate. Make the most of each day. Guard against the temptation of spending the day on the "eat, drink and be merry" philosophy. Rather, invest each day. Here are some investment tips: 1. Take time to know God personally ("Today is the day of salvation"). 2. Spend quality time with your family. 3. Develop meaningful friendships. 4. Make a conscious effort to balance work and leisure. Learn to enjoy each day God gives you, not just the scattered events of life. You only have today. Make the most of it. "Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."
