A National ID Card is coming!

A few weeks ago, I sent an e-mail to our congressman, Mac Collins, asking what his position was on the Department of Transportation requirement to have a "National ID Card" required for every citizen in this country by Oct. 1, 2000.

So far, he has not replied to my mail. I also told him I would write the local papers about this and his stance.

For those of you who are not aware, we will be required to have a National ID Card. Your ID card will be your drivers license. It will have your Social Security number as your drivers license number. Those of you who refuse are in for a rude awakening.

I quote you a paragraph from David M. Bresnahan (WorldNetDaily.com)

"Like it or not, the day is fast approaching when every American will carry a national identification card. Those who do not have one will be denied many basic services."

The article goes on to say, "States which fail to comply with the federal requirements will impose difficulties on their citizens. Without the new card it may become impossible to purchase firearms, get a job, board a plane, vote, cash a check, open a bank or investment account, purchase insurance, receive federal benefits, obtain a student loan, receive Medicare or Medicaid benefits, and many more basic services presently taken for granted..."

Congressman Bob Barr (7th Dist.) has introduced legislation to counter this attempt to control our lives.

I asked our congressman, Mac Collins, to endorse any legislation that opposes a National ID Card. Mac Collins has chosen to remain silent. He has never, as far as I can remember, made a comment on this outrageous attempt to control our lives in any of the local newspapers.

I searched Mac Collins' web site and could not find anything about this subject. I am taking this lack of interest as a sign that he agrees with this "National ID Card."

I, for one, will see what transpires between now and election time. The GOP was supposed to get big government off our backs. It looks like Mac Collins wants more of the same.

Once again, Congressman Collins, where do you stand on this National ID Card?
