Runoff to decide 4 races

By CAL BEVERLY
Staff Writer

A county commission seat, one judgeship, and two state legislative posts remain to be decided in Fayette runoff elections next Tuesday, a day that's likely to see an even more dismal turnout than the 32 percent participation last month.

Facing off for the first open superior court seat in this circuit in a half century are south Fayette resident Chris Edwards and J. David Fowler of Pike County.

Incumbent Dan Lakly of Peachtree City is facing a stiff challenge from political newcomer Kathy Cox, a Sandy Creek High School teacher, for the state House, while Fayette's Bill Bonner will try to overcome a slight primary lead by Don Johnson of Jonesboro to win the state Senate seat vacated by Pam Glanton.

Former County Commissioner Linda Wells is seeking to regain a post on the county's governing body. She is being challenged by retired Peachtree City Mayor Fred Brown.
