Bad Links? | Nothing will ever be unanimous
When I meet with other pastors, we have a standing joke about some deacons and other church committee disgruntles. The joke goes something like this: As long as Im on this committee, nothing is going to be unanimous, and they are quite serious about this. Untold hours of grueling, gut-wrenching, often senseless debate takes place, usually over the most senseless issues. This eats up valuable time that could, and should, be spent on the serious issues facing the church and society today. This should never discourage people who have serious concerns; I believe God created us to be reasoners, not robots, in all the three parts of our lives (mind, body and spirit.) Somewhere along the long line of disgruntles they learned that once they were saved, their mission became that of sitting, soaking, and souring in the pew. The cliché making a mountain out of a molehill comes to mind here. Another long joke we pastors pass around is that so-and-so church would do very well, once a few funerals took place. This would be comical if it werent so true. Sometimes the individual has serious questions about an issue and need serious clarification for the good of themselves and the group. This idea has credit for the good of all. Sometimes they just like to throw a monkey wrench into a well oiled machine just to see what it will look like on the other end. Then we have those who were sent there by Lucifer himself to bog down, and discourage believers whenever, and wherever, they can. They come to the church with the express purpose to disrupt, disengage, disappoint, and cause total despair wherever possible. There is a place for these people and it is always inhabited by Lucifer himself because he is the one who sent them. They will have an opportunity to be with him and all the other disgruntles. Imagine standing before the Lord Jesus Christ and saying to him that you personally were responsible for getting rid of this long list of pastors. I believe this same mentality is being played out in the three levels of our huge and sometimes hard to manage country. We have the local, state and federal levels of our government that are supposed to work together for the greater good. As one might think, I had no use for the Clintons while they were in office. Yet while they were there, I did my Christian duty to pray for them and I reluctantly did so. Our country has been built on our Democratic ideals of everyone being heard and upon the right of descent. I believe in this with all my heart and have fought for this right and will continue to do so. Even as cumbersome as this can become, it is the best of all the other systems. There is however a time when making sure your, or my, two cents worth will make the situation better than it already is. This is where we all need to seriously believe in creation and that there is a God in heaven and that he created our brains. If we believe this to be true, and I hope we do, then He (God) expects us to use it. Use it not to sow discontent, but unity and harmony. In my most humble opinion (Dee says I have no humble opinions), unity and cooperation are two of the greatest marks of a Christian. You can see this in all they do, and wherever they go there is a desire on their part to want the greatest good possible for any given situation? These people are a joy to any pastor, or any church. You look forward being in their presence and want them on any committee or mission. I seriously believe that whichever party is in power in the White House, all Americans should ask themselves am I part of the problem or the solution and act responsibly. I see a new America emerging which is certainly not a part of the solution. For any party to be totally 100 percent against anything the president attempts to do no matter what the issue, is the language of failure, and is hurting America at many levels. This does not honor God or the government He has set up. I thought it was interesting to watch a news commentator who was commenting on President Bushs new nomination for the Supreme Court and he mentioned that she had taught Sunday school for many years. Immediately the question became separation of church and state. I wondered, if she had owned a strip club, if that conversation would have ever taken place. Just be sure that your and my two cents worth is for the common good, and doesnt turn out to be two cents WORSE and results in grinding down the good! God will honor that. (The churchs Web site is under construction temporarily and will be up and running again shortly.) |
