Bad Links? | Whats in store for high school football teams tonight? By MICHAEL BOYLAN So, you like high school football do you? Well, have I got some games for you. Tonights matchups feature everything from high powered offenses to intense and aggressive defenses. All games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight. Starrs Mill (6-1) at Mundys Mill (3-3) (Twelve Oaks Stadium) The Panthers will have a bye week next week, so they are just hoping to get past this game without any major injuries. Last week, Starrs Mill welcomed back Jeff Partlow and Lewis Parks and they would love to have everybody at 100 percent as the end of the season draws near and the playoffs begin. Starrs Mill handily defeated East Coweta last week and it could have been even more of a blowout had the Panthers not give the ball away in the red zone on several occasions. They cant miss on their opportunties tonight and if the offense and defense plays as well as they have been playing, this should be another win for the Panthers. Mundys Mill does present some challenges though. They have a big offensive line and some speed. Their defense also puts a lot of pressure on opposing offenses. The Tigers opened the season with three straight wins (Jonesboro, Mt. Zion Jonesboro and Morrow) before falling to Riverdale, East Coweta and Newnan. McIntosh (2-4) vs. Creekside (6-0) The Chiefs dominated Northgate for much of last weeks game but penalties killed several scoring drives and the Chiefs were burned by a big play in the second half and a scoring drive to start overtime. McIntosh needs to focus on what they did right the past few weeks and put it all together without the mistakes if they are to beat Creekside. The Seminoles have one of the best quarterbacks in the state and their entire team is full of speed. The Creekside defense is also very stingy, allowing only 42 points this season, which translates to an average of seven points per game. The offense has only score below 22 points once. Fayette County (2-5) at East Coweta (3-3) The Tigers put it all together at the right time last Friday and got a big win over Lovejoy. Both the offense and defense have had their moments this season but these moments often came on different nights or at different times during a game. Last week the defense held a Mario Fannin-less offense in check and the offense got good performances both on the ground and in the air. Look for the Tigers to be flying high when they travel to Sharpsburg to meet the Indians. Also, look for East Coweta, which got smacked around by Starrs Mill, to come out swinging. The Indians were embarassed at home last week and the loss kept Coach Danny Cronic from earning his 200th career win. The Indians have the ability to move the ball and score points and the Tigers will need another complete game to grow their winning streak to two games. Sandy Creek at Woodward Academy (3-3) The Patriots got a 14-6 win over Lithia Springs and, were it not for some red zome mistkes, it could have been a larger margin of victory. Sandy Creek coach Chip Walker was impressed with some of the tinkering the team has done and knows that tonights game will be a battle. If the Patriots continue to spread the ball around to a number of different receivers, run the ball well and feature their patented ferocious and often turnover inducing defense, the Patriots should get another region win. Woodward Academy has had an odd season. They kicked things off with a double overtime win over Northgate and followed it with a 22-20 loss to Alexander. The week after that saw the War Eagles hand Lithia Springs a 6-0 loss and then they fell two weeks in a row losing to Douglas County, 37-3, and Villa Rica, 16-6. Last week, Woodward upset Chapel Hill 20-14. Whitewater (6-0) at Athens Academy (3-2-1) The Wildcats do not have another game against a team with a winning record after tonight, so the obvious goal for the team is to stay perfect and go 10-0. Whitewater has only allowed 56 points this season and is scoring an average of 28 points per game. They are doing this with a balanced attack and a defense that throws itself into every play. Athens Academy opened the season with a 27-6 loss to Mill Creek and then followed it with a 21-21 tie with Wesleyan. Since then, they have produced wins over Apalachee (35-7), Walker (27-7) and Jefferson (17-14), while falling to Lincoln County 10-7. The Spartans can put up some points but if Whitewater guards themselves against big plays or sustained drives, they should be 7-0 soon enough. Landmark Christian (4-3) vs. Our Lady of Mercy (0-7) The War Eagles threw for over 260 yards last week but the Whitewater Wildcats were still able to get the win. mainly because Landmark only rushed for 18 total yards in the loss. When the War Eagles have won this year, they have received close to 100 yards rushing to complement their air attack. Quarterback Matt Moody and company should present the Bobcats with a lot of problems, but this is a different Our Lady of Mercy team from the first week. The Bobcats had a late lead against Whitefield Academy last week and penalties and a questionable call led to the overtime loss. Confidence has to be high for the team though, as they have shown in recent weeks that when they dont beat themselves, they are a tough opponent. Look for this game to be close.
