Bad Links? | Organizers pleased with Fairburn festivalBy BEN NELMS It was a success by any measure. In its first year celebrated as Fairburns Festival of Arts and Antiques, the two-day event last weekend drew thousands, lining Roosevelt Highway and covering the grounds of the old Campbell County Courthouse. Throughout the many events the dotted the citys landscape, the sights and sounds and colors signaled one resounding expression fun. The opportunity to catch the parade, to purchase a variety of antiques and art, to sample the cuisine offered by vendors was present all along Roosevelt Highway in downtown Fairburn. And so were the local growers at the Farmers market and the numerous bands that filled the air with live music. Nearby at the old courthouse, there were plenty of activites for kids and adults and more live music. Festival co-organizer Barkley Russell said Monday the festival, formerly known as Old Campbell Homecoming and held at the old courthouse, was clearly a success. It was very successful. So many people said it was wonderful and the community really embraced it, she said. The city staff and Streets and Police departments were just wonderful, too. And I have to acknowledge Fulton County Arts Council, without whose help the wouldnt have been possible. Being, in a sense, a first time event I believe weve set the tone for the coming years. We expect next years festival to be bigger and better. Mayor Betty Hannah said she thought the entire festival and its many events demonstrated a successful occasion on every front. I thought the day went wonderful well, she said. The vendors were busy and happy. The childrens activities at the old courthouse went real well and people had a good time. And next year will be even better.
