What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | 4 Nights in October begins Tomorrow
The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater will play host to more than 30 Contemporary Christian bands over four days and nights this weekend. U-Night 17 is bringing back Four Nights in October again this year, and the musical line up includes some big names. The event, which takes place Thursday, October 6 through Sunday, October 9, will feature afternoon performances on Saturday and Sunday in addition to the evening and late night performances. Six years ago John Paone and his family embarked on a mission to change the hearts and the lives of teens everywhere. After a disheartening encounter with some Peachtree City teens on the cart paths, the Paones asked their daughters what really fired teens up, what would get their attention. The girls response: music, fun, and extreme sports. So, after putting their heads together, the family decided to sponsor a teen weekend that would combine these three things. The result was a group of 800 teens participating in a canoe challenge, Ultimate frisbee matches, a two-mile race and a Christian concert that would appeal to both Christians and non-Christians alike. From this first weekend emerged a Bible study and ministry they called U-Night 17. The focus of U-Night 17 is to minister to kids, many of whom are dealing with depression, loneliness and thoughts of suicide. A second weekend canoe challenge the following year brought out twice as many kids. In 2002 they began calling the event Four Nights in October. They booked a then-unsigned praise band by the name of Mercy Me. We had 10,000 folks show up in 2002. In 2003, it went through the ceiling, as we had Switchfoot, Mercy Me and Audio Adrenaline. Over 13,000 people showed up in 2003 and in 2004. We saw over 500 first time commitments by those that didnt know Christ, says Paone. This year there will be free camping available at the Providence Campgrounds, 592 Bernhard Road in Fayetteville as well as a Late Night performance stage at the same location on Friday and Saturday nights beginning at midnight each night. The campgrounds will also have volleyball nets, an ultimate frisbee field and a game room for those staying at the grounds. The BMX track and Skateboard park at the amphitheater will be open for use during 4 Nights for all those attending. As for the music, Thursday kicks off with House Of Thomas, Paul Wright, Shawn McDonald, Stellar Kart, Matthew West, and The David Crowder Band. Friday will bring Farewell June, The Wedding, John Reuben, Falling Up, Mute Math, Jubal's Kin, Sarah Brendel and Petra. For Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees, Petra, the group that helped pave the way for Christian Rock, this is their farewell tour. Late Night on Friday at the Providence Campground Stage John Reuben will be doing an encore performance along with Mainstay. The Saturday afternoon performance will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will include performances by Cling, Last Tuesday, Ezekiel's Eye, Halas and Fireflight. Saturday evenings show gets going with Goodside, Kid's In the Way, Sanctus Real, Superchic[k], Pillar, and long time Christian rockers Audio-Adrenaline. The evening will continue on the Late Night Stage over at the campgrounds with bands Mars ILL and Fireflight. The Sunday afternoon stage will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. again and tentatively has Iron For Clay, Higgins, The Awkward Romance, House of Thomas, and Three lined up to perform. Sunday night will wrap up with Mat Kearny, The Apologetix, The Myriad, By The Tree, Downhere, and one of 4 Nights all time favorites, the Newsboys, rockin the main stage. Each day before and during the performances there will also be a prayer walk and trail running at the grounds surrounding the amphitheater. This is intended to be used as a time to remember what the music and celebration of the weekend is all about. On both Thursday night and Sunday night there will be a special presentation during the evening concerts honoring those serving in the military and those who serve the country as police officers, firemen, and other first responders. Tickets can be purchased at the Family Christian Bookstore in the Pavilion, or at Heaven2Earth Christian Bookstore, 1585 North Expressway in Griffin. Tickets are also available through ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com) and any of their outlets in Publix grocery stores. Four day passes to the event are $75 per person and individual one day passes are $25. For all pricing options including group rates and VIP passes log onto www.4nights.org. Gates for the main stage concerts on Thursday and Friday nights will open at 5 p.m. with the show beginning at 5:30 p.m. Gates will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday with the concerts starting at 4:30 p.m. This event is being sponsored by J93.3, Aberdeen Woods Conference Center, Zaxbys, Compassion International, Coca-Cola, First Baptist Church of Peachtree City, Crosspoint Community Church, Voice of the Nations Worship Center, and Griffins Alternative Worship.
