Bad Links? | Commercial sites moving forwardBy BEN NELMS Proposed plans for two commercial ventures approved earlier this month by the Fairburn City Council moved the developments a step closer to reality for Black Jack Motorcycles and other businesses at Milam Road and Ga. Highway 74 and an unnamed restaurant on Hwy. 74 east of I-85. The council approved a composite plat for the 11.43-acre Old Campbell Retail Center located on the southeast corner of Hwy. 74 at Milam Road. The area is the current site of Bank of Georgia and the new Black Jack Motorcycles. The purpose of the composite plat was to provide a basis for the future development of the entire parcel, according to City Administrator Jim Williams. The immediate use of the plat, he said, is to show the main access points from Hwy. 74 and Milam Road, to show the way the parcel will tie into the adjoining parcel to the south with a road an utilities and to who the location of the stormwater detention for the parcel. The composite plat shows an interparcel access road to the east of Bank of Georgia and the Black Jack site and running parallel to Hwy. 74. Property will be developed on either side of the interparcel road. Detention ponds are located just east of Bank of Georgia and on the southeast corner of the parcel. The approval was granted contingent upon the developer meeting customary conditions. Council members also approved the proposed site plan for the .85-acre The Village at Fairburn retail center at the corner of Hwy. 74 and entrance to Peachtree Landing Apartments. The plan calls for the development of an 8,400-square-foot restaurant on the site adjacent a package store, said Williams. The parcel is to be subdivided from the large tract owned by the package store. Access to the site will be by way of the package store and will require no new road improvements, he said. Parking will be shared between the two businesses. The council gave approval contingent of the developer meeting several customary conditions. |
