Bad Links? | Lady Tigers are now playing their best ballThis year's Fayette County High School varsity volleyball squad is anchored by six returning "letter-winners" from the 2004 team that finished second to Starr's Mill in the AAAAA Regionals and went on to defeat Parkview in the State Tournament. Five of these key players have played several seasons of "club ball" in addition to their interscholastic experience. To date, the Tigers have not yet "jelled" as a team, but have managed to post a respectable number of victories. Their record since Thursday, Sept. 8 includes wins over East Coweta (25-19, 19-25, 25-15), Eagles Landing Christian (25-23, 23-25, 25-22), Houston County (25-12, 25-9), Mundys Mill (25-19, 25-10), Our Lady of Mercy (25-19, 25-19), East Coweta again (25-15, 25-18) and Houston County again (25-17, 25-18). On Thursday of this past week, the Lady Tigers defeated Eagles Landing in two relatively qucik games, 25-10 and 25-18. Their two losses since then came against Starrs Mill (25-14 and 25-4) and Union Grove (25-23, 28-26). Over the past two weeks, the Lady Tigers have posted a 13-4 record. Fayette County will host East Coweta on Tuesday and it will be their senior night. The seniors on the team have shown great leadership on the court and the team is playing some of their best ball as the season is winding down. The team still has to go through Starrs Mill to win a region title but anything is possible if the Lady Tigers play up to their potential. |
