Bad Links? | Local teams are near the top of their class By MICHAEL BOYLAN There are three local volleyball teams that are all ranked second in their respective classifications. Each of these teams picked up some key victories this weel. Starrs Mill, ranked second in AAAAA in the GaSports.com coaches poll, picked up two region wins as they defeated East Coweta, 25-12 and 25-17, and Lovejoy, 25-7 and 25-17. The Lady Panthers took on Landmark Christian, ranked second in A/AA, last night after the paper went to press. Landmark Christian took on Centennial, Marietta and Milton on Saturday and went 2-1. The Lady War Eagles beat Centennial 25-9 and 25-9 and defeated Marietta in three games, winning the first one 25-22 but losing the next one 25-15 before winning the final game 15-10. Landmark lost to Milton in two games. McIntosh, ranked second in AAAA, got wins over Sandy Creek, Creekside and Whitewater at Whitewater on Tuesday night. They won each match 2-0. The Lady Chiefs met Parkview and Marietta at Marietta last night. They will take on Northgate and Woodward Academy at Whitewater on Tuesday at 5 and 6 p.m. respectively. Fayette County split their region matches on Tuesday. They defeated Houston County 25-17 and 25-18 but fell to Union Grove 25-23 and 28-26. The Lady Tigers hosted Eagles Landing last night. Our Lady of Mercy lost to Forsyth Central in three games, 25-27, 25-17, 9-25 and then fell to St. Pius X in three games as well, 25-21, 23-25, 25-12. The Lady Bobcats played at Holy Innocents last night and will host Lovett and Landmark Christian on Tuesday with matches starting at 4:45 p.m. |
