What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | Harrell earns Eagle AwardKevin Harrell of BSA Troop 175 was honored at his Eagle Scout ceremony Aug. 28 at the Peachtree City United Methodist Church. The Eagle Award is the highest and most coveted rank in Scouting. To achieve this award, Kevin had to earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, serve in various leadership positions in his troop and complete a major community service project. To complete his community service project, Kevin had to find a need that would benefit the community. The project had to be presented for approval, materials had to be acquired, and the entire project had to be coordinated from planning to completion. Kevin, who attended Rising Starr Middle School, wanted to complete a project specifically for the school. So, he contacted Principal Len Patton. She wanted a set of large, hexagon-shaped tables with attached benches to be used as a waiting area for students and teachers, as well as an outdoor classroom. Kevin agreed to make five of these 10-foot tables. The Rising Starr PTO agreed to fund the project, and Kevin secured all the materials from Home Depot in Peachtree City. The project required the help of family, friends, and fellow members of Troop 175 and took a total of 184 hours to complete. Kevin began scouting as a Tiger Cub and has been in the program for 9 years. He has served as Senior Patrol Leader and is a member of Order of the Arrow, the national scouting honor society. He is a sophomore at Starrs Mill High School and a member of Dogwood Church. | |
