Bad Links? | Lady Patriots and Lady Chiefs get wins last week, face each other this weekThe Sandy Creek volleyball team played their first area matches of the season last Tuesday, getting wins over Creekside, 25-15 and 25-15, and Northgate, 25-20, 25-18, and falling to Woodward Academy 25-16, 25-12. Olympia Haney had 28 kills and three blocks, while Ana Marchman added 24 assists. Jessie Ruple had 11 digs on the evening and Marie Auers had five aces. On Saturday, the Lady Patriots hosted a varsity play day and went 5-0, getting wins over Harris County, 25-13, 21-25, 25-16, Columbus, 25-23, 15-25, 26-24, Shiloh, 25-16, 25-10, Hardaway, 25-15, 25-17 and Eagles Landing, 25-20, 25-23. Notable performances came from Cheri Smith who had 15 aces and 32 digs on the day, Marchman, who had 55 assists, Haney, who added 28 kills and Auers, who chipped in seven blocks. Sandy Creeks record is now 20-8. They faced Whitewater and McIntosh yesterday and will play Eagles Landing Christian and Jonesboro at Eagles Landing Christian tomorrow. McIntosh ended a busy week of volleyball action two points away from the championship game at the Lovett Block Party Invitational tournament. The Lady Chiefs won five straight matches in the tournament, including a 25-21, 25-23 victory over Marist Saturday. The Chiefs winning streak ended in the semi-finals of the gold bracket against Milton. Twice McIntosh served at match point but could not convert and dropped a thrilling third game to Milton 21-19. McIntosh opened the tournament cruising past Newnan 25-7, 25-9 and Calvary 25-7, 25-11. The Lady Chiefs followed with victories over three teams ranked in the top ten of their classifications. First McIntosh rolled over AAA St. Vincents 25-12, 25-13. Harrison (AAAAA) proved more difficult, extending the Lady Chiefs to three games. Against Marist, McIntosh bolted to an early lead and held on to win the opener 25-21. Marist built a 21-14 lead in the second game before McIntosh rallied. Clutch serving by Kendall Wilde and Megan Cheatham sparked the Chiefs comeback that stunned the AAAA second-ranked War Eagles. Cheatham totaled 118 assists for the tournament while Danielle Crawford and Leah Thompson each had 39 kills. Middle Samantha Krehel recorded 15 aces and was named to the all tournament team. Last week, McIntosh swept two matches at home defeating Washington and Whitewater on Tuesday. On Thursday, The Chiefs traveled to Decatur where they lost a close match to the host Bulldogs before routing Kell. McIntosh improved its overall record to 26-8 for the season. Before Saturdays matches, McIntosh was ranked third in class AAAA behind Woodward and Marist. Fayette County got wins over Mundys Mill, 25-9, 25-10 and Our Lady of Mercy, 25-19, 25-19 last week. Jordan Gore had six kills and one block on the evening, as Katie Blankenship added eight assists. Brittany Wilson had four kills, one block and one assist, while Brittany Jackson, coming off an injury, added two kills and an ace and Linda Gunter added two kills, two aces and four blocks. Morgan Bolden exhibited good passing for the Lady Tigers in the wins. |
