Bad Links? | International adoption meeting comes to SouthsideBy MICHAEL BOYLAN Have you ever thought about adopting a child from overseas? Bethany Christian Services will host an informational meeting on international adoptions at New Hope Baptist this Saturday. The meeting, which lasts from 10 a.m.-noon, will feature five area families who have adopted children from other countries to lend their support, answer questions and provide their testimonials about the process. Bethany Christian Services is a not-for-profit, pro-life, Christian adoption and family services agency with locations in 30 states and ministries in 15 other countries. Before this weekend, Georgians interested in adopting a child through Bethany Christian Services, had to travel to the north side of Atlanta for the meetings. It is hoped that interest on the southside for this meeting will be high enough to have more meetings like this in the area. One of the families who will be speaking this Saturday is the King family. Laurie King has two biological children and a little girl, Elizabeth, from China. Though the process was long, they applied in November of 2002 and were able to take Elizabeth home in February of 2004, King has applied again and hopes to travel to China in January to adopt another child. King and several others will be a part of a panel discussion that will give those attending the meeting the basic information of the adoption process as well as the first hand accounts of how each family got through what can be a very stressful time. The focus of the meeting will be on adopting children from China but Bethany Christian Services does set up adoptions in a number of other countries.
