Bad Links? | Council races getting crowdedBy BEN NELMS The qualifying period for local elections in Union City, Fairburn and Palmetto is over. The weeks between now and Nov. 8 look like they might be busy. Qualifying in Union City drew two candidates for mayor and seven candidates for the two expiring council seats. Incumbent Mayor Ralph Moore will face off with challenger Randolph Scott. And in the council race, incumbent council members Shirley Jackson and Barbara Bohannon will face challengers Annette Cheri Davis, Robert charles Potts, Nikketta Yvette Arnold, Angelette Mealing and Shirley Lee Dean. All council seats in Union City are at-large. Union City has three polling locations. These include C.H. Gullatt Elementary School located at 6110 Dodson Road, Fred Etris Community Building in Bridges Park located at 5285 Lakeside Drive and Sparks Manor Auditorium in Christian City located at 7290 Lester Road. In Palmetto, a total of six qualified for the three council seats set to expire. Incumbents Bill Burnham, John Farr and James Harper will face challengers Jeff Yasson, Gregory Rusch and John Miller. All council seats in the Palmetto race are at-large. The polling location for the Palmetto election will be in the council chambers at City Hall, located at 509 Toombs Street. In Fairburn, those qualifying for the three at-large council seats include challenger Jeffrey Scott Vaughan and incumbents Roy Farr, Doug Crawford and Mario Avery. Incumbent Mayor Betty Hannah had no opposition. The polling location for Fairburns Nov. 8 election is City Hall, located at 56 Malone Street. The final day for voter registration is Oct. 11. |
