Baptist Disaster Relief and needs donations of toiletries for the Fairburn Baptist Association (770-964-9830). Harvest Rain Church International, 51 Senoia Road (770-969-2040), needs donations of non-perishable foods for people staying in local motels, as well as donations of cleaning supplies for people being placed in housing. The church is providing group counseling via a licensed counselor. The Atlanta Housing Authority has established a Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Hotline. The number is (866) 435-7285. The Joint Resource Recovery Center at Georgia International Convention Center, just off I-85 and Camp Creek Parkway at 2000 Convention Center Concourse in College Park, is open each day from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. The center provides access to services from American Red Cross, FEMA, Dept. of Human Resources, Dept. of Driver Services, Dept. of Education, Dept. of Labor and Atlanta Council for Aging. For unemployment insurance claims from Alabama, call (866) 234-5382 between 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (Central Standard Time) Monday-Friday or (800) 499-2035 for speech and hearing impaired. For Louisiana, claims must be filed at www.laworks.net by selecting online services and then file a UI claim. If encountering problems or needing additional information call (225) 342-2840. For Mississippi, inquire with the Georgia Department of Labor customer service at (877) 709-8185. A reliable mailing address will be needed to process a claim. Landmark Christian School is accepting admission applications from families displaced by Hurricane Katrina on a case-by-case basis. There are currently openings in all grades (K4-12) except 2nd, 6th, and 9th. Financial aid is also available to families displaced by the hurricane, on a case-by-case basis. Landmarks academic and behavioral standards for admission remain unchanged. Johnny Carinos in Newnan will be hosting a benefit dinner for the victims of Hurricane Katrina Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 4-10 p.m. Fifty percent of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.
