Bad Links? | First part of qualifying ends in SenoiaBy JOHN THOMPSON It should be an interesting fall in Senoia as voters will choose a mayor and three councilman. At 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, qualifying ended for the mayors race and two council positions. Mayor Bob Hannah will face off against former City Councilman Robert Belisle. In the council races, incumbents Tony Miller and Larry Owens face opposition from political newcomer Keith Harrison. On Monday, Belisle resigned his council post to qualify to run for the mayors position. With his resignation, the city announced that qualifying for the remainder of his term would take place Sept.19-21 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. One of the surprises in the early qualifying was the absence of former city administrator Murray McAffee, who was expected to qualify for the mayors race, but chose not to file the forms. Newnan will not stage any municipal elections this fall, because all the races are uncontested. Newnan Mayor Keith Brady will return to office and Ray Dubose and Rhodes Shell will assume two council positions. |
