Bad Links? | Locals continue to perform well in college pigskin game By MICHAEL BOYLAN Ryan Barr, a Starrs Mill graduate, got some playing time in Bloomsburg Universitys 49-21 win over Shippensburg University. Larry Beard, a Sandy Creek graduate, had an interception returned for seven yards in Georgia Southerns 23-20 loss to McNeese State. Beard also had two assists in the loss. Darrell Burston, a Starrs Mill graduate, had one solo tackle, one tackle for a one yard loss, one pass break up and two quarterback hurries for Florida State in their 62-10 win over The Citadel. Jason Earwood, a Starrs Mill graduate, had one tackle and four assists in Georgia Southerns 23-20 loss to McNeese State. Andrew Gardener, a Sandy Creek graduate, started as the offensive left tackle for Georgia Tech in their 27-21 win over the University of North Carolina. Michael Gates, a former Sandy Creek Patriot and current member of the Mississippi State University football team, got some playing time in the Bulldogs 38-6 win over Murray State. Kedric Golston, a Sandy Creek graduate, had one solo tackle and one asist in Georgias 17-15 win over South Carolina. Chris James, a Starrs Mill graduate, kicked three field goals, including the 27 yard game winner as time expired to give Western Kentucky University the win. He also connected on two extra points. Calvin Johnson, a Sandy Creek graduate, had six catches for 114 yards in Georgia Techs 27-21 win over the University of North Carolina. Brett McCullough, a Sandy Creek graduate, now a sophomore was named Defensive Captain and starting corner at Virginia Union University. McCullough had four tackles, one assist and a fumble return for 68 yards in their loss to Newberry, South Carolina. Alex Mortensen, a graduate of Landmark Christian School, passed once for 20 yards in Arkansas 49-17 win over Missouri State in the first week of the season. He did not play in the teams loss to Vanderbilt. Hart Pearson, a Fayette County graduate, had six punts for 201 yards in Charleston Southerns 42-0 loss to Presbyterian College. His longest punt was over 50 yards. Riley Swanson, a Sandy Creek graduate, had two solo tackles and and an assist for Wake Forest in their 31-3 loss to Nebraska. |
