Bad Links? | 2 seriously injured in Tyrone 2-car crashBy JOHN MUNFORD Two area girls were expected to live Tuesday after they were seriously injured in an early evening auto crash on Ga. Highway 74 in Tyrone Monday, police said. Although one of the victims was in really bad shape Monday night, police learned Tuesday that all are expected to survive their injuries, according to Tyrone Police Chief Johnny Hay. The two victims were transported to the trauma unit at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta via helicopter, officials said. One of the victims was identified as Crystal Monique McDonald, 17, of 145 Winterberry Ridge in north Fayette County, who drove one of the vehicles in the crash, police said. The other victim, whose name was not immediately available Tuesday morning, was a passenger in the back seat of McDonalds car, police said. A third passenger in the car was transported to Southern Regional Hospital, officials said. According to the preliminary accident report, McDonalds 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage was going south on Hwy. 74 when it turned left onto Carriage Oaks, into the path of a 1995 Volvo T5R driven by Matthew Paul Arsenault, 22, of Fairburn. Arsenaults vehicle, heading northbound, struck the passengers side of McDonalds car, police said. McDonald was ejected from the vehicle during the collision, which occurred just before 6:30 p.m., police said. The highway was shut down for some time so the victims could be assisted and the medical helicopters could land, Hay said. The investigation is ongoing, Hay said Tuesday. An officer was scheduled to perform a detailed examination of McDonalds car Tuesday afternoon, he said. |
