Bad Links? | Lady Tigers pick up a region win at LovejoyBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The Fayette County Lady Tigers varsity softball team struck first in their game againt Lovejoy High School on Friday night but fans would have to wait until the sixth inning for the girls to break the game open. April Ward drove in Ebony Baitey in the first inning but Lovejoy played small ball in the bottom of the inning and scored the equalizing run after a sacrifce bunt moved the tying run to third base. Pitcher Caroline Tuebl struck out two Lovejoy batters to end the inning and would ed the game with nine strikeouts overall. Neither team would score in the second inning but Lovejoy pulled ahead in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly. Chasity Welch hit a leadoff triple in the top of the fourth and came home on a wild pitch to tie the game. The game would remain deadlocked until the top of the sixth inning when fayette County broke it open. The team batted around as Welch, Tori Owen, Jenn Teubl and Baitey each drove in a run. Owen scored on a wild pitch in the inning as Fayette jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The Lady Tigers would then put Lovejoy down in order in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. Welch went 3-for-4 with two triples and an RBI in the win, while Baitey also went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Fayette County was scheduled to play in the Cherokee tournament this weekend and will play at Newnan on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and at Mundys Mill on Thursday at 6 p.m. |
